ABOUT

Corey Halaychik
Library Director
Stephen B. Luce Library, SUNY Maritime College
Bronx, NY

Describe yourself in three words

Rabid change agent.

What are you reading (or listening to on your mobile device)?

I’m actually reading two books at the moment: “Endurance” by Scott Kelly and “The Peaceable Kingdom: A year in the life of America’s oldest zoo” by John Sedgwick.

Describe ACRL in three words

Slow and steady.

What do you value about ACRL?

It has proven helpful in shaping my views about what needs to change about academic librarianship.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

As a Library Director it’s my job to ensure that the librarians and staff that I work with have the tools, training, and support to excel at their jobs. This means that I’m not only working directly with my team but also having discussions with administration, department chairs, and other internal and external stakeholders about what the library needs in order to help support the teaching, learning, and research taking place.

In your own words

The days can be long, the pay can be low, but the results are totally worth it.
