ALA 2008 Empowerment Conference Hints

Welcome!
Thank you for registering to attend ALA's 2008 Empowerment Conference for library support staff! We appreciate your commitment to ALA. Summertime is a perfect time to come to Anaheim.

Conference Hours
The conference begins on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30am with Welcome Breakfast and a presentation on Customer Service presented by the Disney Institute.  The conference concludes at 2pm on Sunday, June 29 with Lunch - Interactive Conservation presented by Pam Parr and Gail Johnson.  All Empowerment Conference session are scheduled to take place in the Anaheim Convention Center.

Empowerment Conference Registration Hours
Registration will be in Hall C Level 1 of the Anaheim Convention Center.

Friday  12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Sunday 7:30 - 12:00 p.m.


Shuttle Service
Free shuttle buses, sponsored by Gale Cengage Learning, will operate between all participating hotels and the Anaheim Convention Center during the conference. Service will also be provided for attendees with disabilities. Shuttle bus service schedules (including daily pickup times, locations and destinations) will be published in Cognotes (the daily show newspaper available during the conference) and will be available onsite. Complimentary bus service is provided by Gale Cengage Learning. Don't forget to stop by their booth and say thanks for the lift!

Ground Transportation
Four airports serve the Anaheim/Orange County Area. These airports are:
John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA) , 13 miles/20 minutes from Anaheim
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) , 35 miles/50 minutes from Anaheim
Ontario International Airport (ONT) , 36 miles/45 minutes from Anaheim
Long Beach Airport (LGB) , 18 miles/30 minutes from Anaheim

Prime Time Shuttles
You may reserve by phone at 1-800-RED-VANS or 310-536-7922 and reference code 310572. You may also click on the Prime Time Shuttle name above to be taken to our special ALA reservations page.

Public Transportation
Details about public transportation in Anaheim are available at http://www.octa.net/.
Anaheim also offers the Anaheim Resort Transit (ART) Service, a visitor shuttle system that provides access to dining, shopping and attractions. The ART provides access to the Disney parks, the Anaheim Convention Center, and several hotels in the ALA hotel block and other locations in the area. Dress
Business casual attire is appropriate for the conference, and comfortable shoes are a must. Bring a light jacket or sweater and don't forget to pack a swimsuit or clothes for your workout.

Meals at the Conference
Breakfast is included in your registration for Saturday and lunch on Sunday.  All other meals during the conference are on your own.

No Smoking Policy
By Council action at its 1991 Atlanta Annual Conference, it was resolved that "smoking is prohibited at Midwinter Meetings, Annual Conferences, regional/national conferences, continuing education programs, exhibits and other gatherings sponsored by the ALA."
