ALA urges libraries to register as partners

The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce that it has again joined with NonProfit Vote as a premier partner for National Voter Registration Day 2021. ALA encourages libraries to sign up to participate in this important event, culminating in a nation-wide day of action on September 28, 2021.

Washington, D.C. -- The American Library Association (ALA) is partnering with Communities for Immunity, an unprecedented collaboration among libraries and museums to boost COVID-19 information and vaccine confidence in communities across the United States. Communities for Immunity provides funding to libraries, museums, science centers and other cultural institutions to enhance vaccine confidence where it matters most: at the local level.

Libraries bypassed for emergency funding in omnibus spending package  

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Library Association (ALA) welcomed the eighth consecutive increase in federal fiscal year (FY) appropriations to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The regular FY 2021 budget bill, passed on December 21 alongside the $900 billion Emergency Covid Relief spending package, includes an additional $5 million for IMLS, including $2 million for the Library Services and Technology Act.  

ALA is urging library advocates to contact their U.S. representatives and senators with an ask to provide funding for libraries in a COVID relief package as House and Senate members work to pass an emergency assistance plan before adjourning for the year.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the bipartisan Accelerating Connected Care and Education Support Services on the Internet Act (ACCESS the Internet Act), which includes funding for libraries. The $2 billion legislation addresses immediate gaps in internet access necessary for distance learning and telehealth.
