Describe RUSA in three words:

Inquisitive, Service-oriented, Friendly

How long have you been a RUSA member?

15 years

What drew you to and continues to attract you to the RUSA Community?

I was drawn to the RUSA Community by a desire to learn from my public services colleagues working in libraries large and small. I was hooked by the virtual reference discussion group and the amazing conversations that were occurring during those sessions. I quickly learned that the spirit of sharing and helping pervaded all of RUSA and that conversations with colleagues in positions similar to mine were consistently illuminating and refreshing.

What are you working on now that you’re excited about?

Chad Pearson and I are co-chairing ETS' brand new Best Emerging Technology Award Committee. This is the first year of the award and we are incredibly excited by the enthusiasm we have heard about it from others. We will be giving the first award ($3,000) at ALA Annual in 2020.

What are you currently reading/ listening to/ watching/ making?

I am currently reading Laini Taylor's book Strange the Dreamer. She is an amazing talent!

What advice can you share to others for a fulfilling and beneficial RUSA experience?

Don't be shy! Talk to the people you meet online or in-person in conferences or in webinars. You will be amazed at how much it helps to bounce ideas off of your peers.

Anything else?

RUSA is filled with people who care deeply about making a difference. Being involved in the organization has been a tremendous boon to me personally and professionally. Thank you to everyone who has helped me over the years!
