The Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS)
The American Library Association’s liaison to the CSK Awards Committee provides guidance and management oversight to the committee. ODLOS also facilitates all CSK business and financial matters within ALA. It is also interesting to note the name changes of the office over time:
- 1973 Office for Services to the Disadvantaged
- 1980 Name of the office was changed to Office for Library Outreach Services
- 1995 Office name changed to Office for Literacy and Outreach Services.
- 2016 Office name change Office of Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services

Dr. Jean Coleman - Director Office for Services to the Disadvantaged 1973-1986
Coleman served as the first director of the then, ALA Office for Services to the Disadvantaged, 1973-1986. She was responsible for convening a group of librarians at the 1981 ALA mid-winter meeting for propose of keeping the CSK award alive. She helped oversee the smooth transition of the award to SRRT and facilitated the CSK Book Award becoming an official ALA award. Since 2006 a lecture is held in her honor at the ALA annual conferences
