CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is pleased to announce OverDrive Education as the sponsor of Friday's general session, featuring Dr. Adolph Brown, III, during the AASL National Conference taking place Nov. 14-16, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky.

"School libraries and librarians are essential to student growth and success," said Steve Potash, founder and CEO of OverDrive. "OverDrive Education is proud to help librarians serve their students in innovative ways and we value the AASL National Conference’s role in achieving this goal.”

"AASL would like to thank OverDrive for sponsoring Doc Brown’s keynote session during the conference," said conference committee co-chair Heather Jankowski. "OverDrive is dedicated to a world enlightened by reading. Please add them to your list of exhibitors to visit during the conference to explore the options for your library and thank them for sponsoring Doc Brown’s appearance."

Dr. Adolph Brown, III, American urban and rural school educator, author, research-scientist and businessman, has earned the reputation of being a uniquely inspiring, relevant and entertaining keynote speaker. He has a strong appreciation for the virtues of teaching, research and leadership. His research focuses on equity and inclusion, 21st-century life skills, teaching excellence, social and emotional learning and personal development. He is the author of the international bestselling book “Two Backpacks: Learning Their Story and Building Relationships with a Trauma Informed Perspective,” which looks at childhood trauma and its effect on learning and living.

"Learning, laughing, leading - all great words librarians and Doc Brown shares in their quest for greatness in education," said Alice Bryant, conference committee co-chair. "Why Doc Brown and why now? As leaders in our schools and districts librarians need the spirit, enthusiasm and tools to help ourselves and our students reach full potential. Doc Brown will do just that!"

Brown understands that sometimes life isn't fair and injustice is real. Due to a selfless mother who worked many jobs, she instilled in him the belief that he could overcome unfair circumstances and live life with purpose. Although Dr. Brown is an internationally recognized speaker and author on children, teens, parenting, bullying and character, he does not consider himself a role model. He proudly refers to himself as a "Real Model!" Even as a national media contributor, award-winning author, national spokesperson and credentialed educational and corporate consultant, he does not consider himself an expert. He says its all about "Progress, Not Perfection!"

The AASL National Conference & Exhibition, national.aasl.org, is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. Those communicating about the national conference are encouraged to use the official hashtag, #aasl19.
