CHICAGO  — The American Library Association (ALA) welcomes Raymond Garcia as a Communications Assistant in the ALA Governance Office. He began April 9.

He previously worked as a Journalism Intern for the Public Library Association (a Division of the American Library Association). He helped managed one of PLA’s sites, Public Libraries Online and oversaw a group of contributing writers. During his time with PLA, he helped PL Online reach 60,000 monthly views, a record for the site. He also revamped PL Online’s social media accounts.

He brings to ALA experience as a Public Relations and Social Media Intern at Preferred Hotels & Resorts. He monitored media placements, organized press clippings, drafted social media content and maintained a content calendar.

He also does volunteer PR and marketing work for St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, most notably when it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017. He secured media placements on WGN Morning News and DNA Info Chicago, in addition to editing together a commemorative memory book celebrating the milestone.

Garcia is a proud alumnus of Ball State University, “the Harvard of Muncie” as fellow alumnus David Letterman affectionately calls it. He received a B.A. in Journalism and was actively involved in media organizations such as The Ball State Daily News and WCRD 91.3 FM.
