LRRT announces winner of 2008 Ingenta Research Award

CHICAGO, IL and CAMBRIDGE, MA ― The Library Research Round Table (LRRT) of the American Library Association (ALA) announced today that the team of Grace A. Ajuwon and Prince B. Olorunsaye, both from the E. Latunde Odeku Medical Library, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, is the winner of the 2008 Ingenta Research Award.

Sponsored by Ingenta, the leading provider of technology and services connecting the publishing and information industries, the award is granted annually by LRRT to support research projects in the fields of acquisition, use and preservation of digital content. This year’s award will support the team’s study “Barriers to full utilization of digital resources in Health InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative (HINARI) among researchers and clinicians in selected institutions in Southwestern Nigeria”.

John Bertot, 2007/2008 chair, LRRT Steering Committee, said, “We are very pleased to have the support of Ingenta and deeply appreciate their generosity and their commitment to furthering research in our field.  This year’s Ingenta Award funding enables the winners to explore the use of digital resources in health care, which is a significant area of LIS study.”

“We’re very much aware, however, of the difficulties that HINARI institutions continue to encounter, for example due to hardware or bandwidth issues. So we’re truly pleased to be contributing to the international scholarly community’s combined efforts in this area by sponsoring this research” added Jeff Downing, library relations manager at Ingenta.

The Library Research Round Table (LRRT) was founded in 1968 to contribute toward the extension and improvement of library research. LRRT organizes activities that support and recognize research and it provides public programs that inform and educate ALA members about the theoretical base of the field and about research methods and findings that improve library services and administration.
