CHICAGO — The ALA Chapter Relations Office is pleased to announce that ALA President Loida Garcia-Febo will host the webinar “Library Preparedness for Hurricane Season,” on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. The webinar is free for all to attend.

As the hurricane season approaches, it is imminent to get your library as prepared as possible for the likeliness that you could be affected. Alan Haley, Preservation Specialist from the Library of Congress will review the basic principles of emergency management, as an effective way to update our own emergency plans. Haley will also highlight the steps to create a template for emergencies if you have yet to develop one.

This will also be a great opportunity to learn valuable lessons from librarians in Houston and Puerto Rico. They will explain how they were able to rebuild while serving and collaborating with their communities in the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes, Irma and Maria, in 2017.

The ALA Adopt A Library program, where libraries and organizations can assist through fundraising; donating books and other resources such as supplies and equipment; providing advice, volunteers, will also be discussed.

ALA Chapter Relations Office encourages you to join this free webinar to learn more about the importance of disaster preparedness and discover opportunities to engage and network with others. Register now to reserve your place as attendance capacity is limited.
