Examining Privilege in Classifications: Connecting Critical Information Literacy to Conversations on ‘Latinx'

  • 11:00 AM (Pacific)

The presenter will share and reflect on a recent roundtable event hosted by the Sonoma State University Library (entitled “To Be or Not To Be Latinx?”) in which participants discussed the intersections of identity, language, gender, and privilege encapsulated in the term “Latinx”. In doing so, the presentation aims to provide the audience with a foundation for creating programming or teaching opportunities that furnish library patrons with a critical understanding of the utility, limits, and hierarchies enacted by classifications—both within and outside library contexts.
