This webinar explores the structure and purpose of Adult Literacy through Libraries: an Action Agenda and the free companion online course; discusses adult literacy action plans and findings from a pilot library initiative; and shares additional literacy resources for libraries. The webinar is facilitated by ALA's Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services (ODLOS) and our partner organization ProLiteracy.

Speakers

Kristin Lahurd (Assistant Director, Literacy and Continuing Education, ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services)

Kristin develops strategic plans for literacy and continuing education that further equity, diversity, and inclusion; works with ALA units, members, and partner organizations to create literacy and continuing education initiatives and resources; and represents ALA on the National Coalition for Literacy. Kristin brings to the position several years of work in education, including roles as literacy coach, English teacher, and reading teacher in the middle grades. Prior to her work in the public schools, Kristin held positions in public health and social service.

Alicia Suskin (Project Manager at ProLiteracy)

Alicia has been with ProLiteracy since 2014. She is responsible for proposal development, planning, implementation, and management of initiatives and grant-funded projects that support ProLiteracy’s mission. Alicia’s current work focuses on managing several initiatives centered around adult literacy and libraries and workforce preparation.
