English Learners and Graphic Novels: Enhancing a Middle School Library Graphic Novel Collection to Ignite Newcomer Immigrant Youth Literacy - Appreciating the educational value of graphic novels, César Chávez Middle School Library plans to enhance its graphic novel collection with the goal of creating an effective, supplementary resource for Language Arts teachers. Targeting English learner classes and those where students of varying abilities are mixed together, the library aims to purchase sets of graphic novels for class reading exercises and expand its circulating collection for independent reading. The library will collaborate with teachers, language specialists, and researchers to select appropriate titles and develop corresponding lessons.
