Preservation in Action is a program sponsored by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS), in support of ALA's Libraries Transform initiative. The program is intended to promote an understanding of the importance of preservation while engaging with cultural heritage collections in ALA conference locations.

Preservation in Action Event — Volunteers Wanted!

Join Preservation in Action for an engaging, hands-on opportunity to help preserve local cultural heritage at the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago! Participants will take part in day-long preservation project at Rebuild Foundation’s Stony Island Arts Bank in Chicago, IL. The day will include preservation care and handling training and hands-on rehousing activities. Working with archival collections, such as ephemera and photographs, participants will learn about the preservation needs of different types of materials, appropriate storage, and best practices. No experience is required. Registration is required as space is limited.
