ACRL announces pre-conferences

 

CHICAGO - The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is offering seven pre-conferences prior to its 12th National Conference, "Currents and Convergence: Navigating the Rivers of Change," on Thursday, April 7, 2005, in Minneapolis, Minn.   Pre-conferences are half-day or full-day programs that allow participants to focus on a particular subject or issue in-depth.   Participants may choose from the sessions below to acquire new tips, tools and ways of thinking.

 

Assessment in Academic Libraries: Using ACRL Standards for Continuous Evaluation

Learn about the ACRL Standards for Libraries in Higher Education (2004) and apply them as a framework for evaluating the academic library. Use practical examples, assessment tools and techniques to develop a plan to implement an assessment process.

 

Born with a Chip: Making Libraries Relevant to the Millennials!

During this full-day preconference, learn how to make your library relevant to Millennials (individuals born in 1979-1994). Find out who the Millennials are and what research says about them. Learn about the top nine behaviors of Millennials and participate in a live focus group with 11 Millennials.

 

Copyright in the Library: Finally, a Reality Show for the Squeamish

Understand basic copyright principles, including how to distinguish and address ownership and use issues, and how to share with patrons opportunities to better understand these principles. 

 

Information Literacy in the Disciplines: Librarian/Faculty Collaboration for 21st Century Research Skills

As library users become more distant physically and virtually, librarians need to work with faculty to develop successful instructional strategies and outcomes for current research processes and practices in the discipline. Learn about subject-specific information literacy standards and explore instructional approaches tailored to specific disciplines.

 

Institutional Digital Repository @ Your Library?

This preconference will illustrate how to start and maintain an institutional digital repository. Identify technology requirements, personnel and skills your institution already possesses and those requirements, personnel and skills your institution would need to acquire in order to support a digital institutional repository.

 

Sharon Hogan Management Symposium

This management preconference is designed for front line librarians considering middle management positions and managing people for the first time. During the session, focus on those issues that challenge first time managers such as hiring, training and evaluating staff, setting priorities, planning, staff relations and living with ambiguity.

 

ARL Preconference - Outcome Assessment Tools for the Library of the Future: Measuring Service Quality (LibQUAL+(TM)) and the Impact of Networked Electronic Services (MINES)

Learn more about two major outcomes based assessment tools in ARL's New Measures toolkit: LibQUAL+(TM) (Measuring Library Service Quality) and MINES (Measuring the Impact of Networked Electronic Services).
