History: Established at Midwinter, 2003, when the Board voted to accept the report of the Organization & Bylaws Committee recommending the establishment of a standing committee with a slightly different charge: To facilitate the exchange information and galleys of books published within two years among the voting teen group members as well as the non-voting members; to annually prepare the “Teens Top 10” list for Teen Read Week; and to coordinate the public electronic vote. The Organization & Bylaws Committee then amended the charge immediately after the Midwinter meeting to read as above. Earlier, the YALSA Board had created the YA Galley Committee in 2002 to oversee two interrelated projects, the YA Galley Task Force and the Teen’s Top Ten (TTT) project, that had been moved from ‘pilot’ status to become permanent YALSA activities. The YA Galley Task Force was formed in 1999 at the request of several publishers of YA books who wanted teen readers’ feedback on their publications. The Teens’ Top Ten (TTT) Task Force was created in 1999 to explore the possibility of a teen-generated selection list similar to other YALSA selection lists.
