NAME: Adult Books for Young Adults Project (now called the ALEX Awards, and became an official ALA Award in 2001)

DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT: Annual, 1997
DATE OF COMPLETION: Annual, 2001
MEMBERSHIP: Determined by the President
QUALIFICATIONS: YALSA members able to attend both the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conferences of the ALA. Selection committee chairs and officers preferred.
TERM OF OFFICE: Five years
FUNCTION: To plan, organize and implement a series of lectures and booklists dealing with adult books for young adults. To select each year 10 books published for adults that appeal to young adults and present their authors with the Alex Award.

HISTORY: Funded by the Margaret Alexander Edwards Trust for five years at $5,000 per year.
