Education Committee

To encourage education programs (including academic continuing education and staff development programs) relating to library and information technology by identifying topics where there is a need for education and bringing to the attention of LITA Committees and Interest Groups, and the library and information technology education community in general, the need for programs related to such topics. To encourage research on education matters pertaining to technological subjects. To identify educational opportunities and programs in library information and technology and to disseminate this information. To research, propose, and monitor LITA's web-based educational offerings. To monitor issues related to education and continuing education for librarians and assist the LITA Board of Directors in preparing the LITA position and response as necessary. To develop criteria for LITA awards and scholarships, as opportunities arise.

The Education Committee Chair also serves as the LITA Representative to the ALA Education Committee. Alternatively, the Chair may officially appoint a committee member to serve as the LITA Representative. The Chair will notify the LITA Office with the name of the LITA Representative to the ALA Education Committee so that all rosters and distribution lists can be updated. Action items and items of relevance to LITA are to be reported by the LITA Rep to the LITA President and Executive Director.
