Function Statement: To identify, develop, promote, and disseminate information on effective cooperative or collaborative projects that link schools and public libraries. The committee will maintain and update the resources that have been compiled on the ALA Web site, develop training workshops and/or programs on cooperative or collaborative projects and present them at conferences and institutes and for other organizations serving youth, and detail findings in articles and books for division publications.
Membership: 9 attendant and 3 virtual members, 4 from each of the divisions (3 attendant and 1 virtual from each; appointed by each division's President-Elect)
Term: 2 year, spring (In order that appointment expirations are staggered, half of the appointments made during the first year will be for one year.
Chair: The chair of the committee will rotate among the three divisions as follows, and will be one of that division's four members: 2006-07 chair will be a member of YALSA, appointed by the YALSA President-Elect; 2007-08 chair will be a member of AASL, appointed by the AASL President-Elect; 2008-09 chair will be a member of ALSC, appointed by the ALSC President-Elect.

Function Statement: To serve as a liaison between the division and the ALA Intellectual Freedom
Committee and all other groups within the association concerned with intellectual freedom. To advise the division on matters before the Office for Intellectual Freedom and their implication for library service to children and to make recommendations to the ALA Intellectual Freedom Committee for changes in policies involving library service to children; to promote in-service and continuing education programs in the area of intellectual freedom for those who select library material for children.

To call to the attention of the ALA Legislation Committee and to recommend to the ALSC Board endorsement or revision of legislation affecting children that might be proposed or supported by ALA Legislation Committee.

Function Statement: To speak for special populations children and their caregivers; these may include those who have learning or physical differences, those who are speaking English as a second language, those who are in a non-traditional school environment, those who are in non-traditional family settings (such as teen parents, foster children, children in the juvenile justice system, and children in gay and lesbian families), and those who need accommodation service to meet their needs. To offer leadership in discovering, developing, and disseminating information about library materials, programs, and facilities for special population children and their caregivers; to develop and maintain guidelines for selection of useful and relevant materials; and to discuss, develop, and suggest ways in which library education programs can prepare librarians to serve these children and their caregivers.

Function Statement: Work in an advisory capacity with the person contracted to develop a new/updated ECRR curriculum based on new early literacy research and the ECRR evaluation findings, including input from trainers; create training guidelines on how to implement/market the ECRR curriculum for staff at leadership and practitioner levels; recommend how training will be handled for the new curriculum building on the successes and lessons of the current training model; recommend opportunities for institutionalizing aspects of the ECRR initiative within the divisions to extend/keep fresh the life of curriculum related materials; recommend to ALSC/PLA staff opportunities for marketing the new curriculum/initiative; organize a program for the PLA National Conference in March 2010 and the ALSC National Institute in September 2010 on the evaluation findings, new research and direction of the new curriculum; and seek additional funding to support training, marketing, implementation and multi-lingual/culturally sensitive adaptations of the revised ECRR curriculum/materials.
