The Path to Collaboration: Making it Happen

Learn how to identify and analyze the factors that contribute to successful collaboration with teachers. Topics covered include: the culture of the school, the role of the media specialist, qualities of successful leaders, and the various facets of the collaboration process. Media specialists will learn what to bring to the collaboration table and how to develop and initiate an action plan to encourage teachers to join them.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the factors that influence collaboration efforts
- Develop and articulate a vision for the library media center that enhances collaboration
- Evaluate individual personality traits and leadership skills to discover areas for growth
- Assess individual curriculum development competencies
- Formulate a collaboration action plan
Facilitator Bio
Marilyn Heath has been a teacher and teacher-librarian for twenty-three years. She earned her MLIS from the University of South Carolina in 1989 and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with a major in Curriculum and Instruction in 1999. She achieved National Board certification in 2003.
Marilyn has presented and written extensively. Her first book, Electronic Portfolios: A Guide to Professional Development and Assessment (Linworth, 2004), was selected as the Association of Educational Publishers 2005 winner of the Distinguished Achievement Award for a professional development book. Her second book, MLA Made Easy: Citation Basics for Beginners, will be a fall 2009 Linworth publication.
