Welcome to LAMA - A Message from LAMA President W. Bede Mitchell
As the 51st president of the Library Administration and Management Association, I welcome you to the LAMA web site. Here you can learn about our strategic plan, our popular professional development programs and publications, options for supporting the association, and opportunities for becoming involved in our many sections, committees and discussion groups.
Our mission is to encourage and nurture current and future leaders, and develop and promote outstanding leadership and management practices. We hope that as you get to know us, you will find LAMA to be, as our strategic plan states, “a welcoming community where aspiring and experienced leaders from all types of libraries, as well as those who support libraries, come together to gain skills in a quest for excellence in library management, administration and leadership.” Regardless of whether you are a librarian or a librarian supporter, regardless of the kind of library which you typically use, support, or work in, and regardless of whether you are a patron, a trustee, a brand new librarian, or a seasoned administrator, we think you will find LAMA offers you great value for your time, energy, and money. If you are not already a member, click here.
In order to achieve our mission and realize the goals of the strategic plan, we need the full participation of our members. We not only want you to be involved in section and committee affairs, but we want you to help develop LAMA’s strategic initiatives. Taking a cue from last year’s 50th anniversary, and with many apologies to songwriter Paul Simon, I am describing my presidential theme as seeking “Fifty Ways to Lead Your LAMA.” I encourage members to submit suggestions for new services and methods for improving existing services.
By offering providing what you are willing to support through membership or registration fees, we can generate revenue for investing in even more new member programs and services.
So how can we serve you? Send your questions and suggestions to Lama@ala.org We invite your feedback, participation, and support.
W. Bede Mitchell
