  • Diversity Counts
In October of 2006, the American Library Association (ALA) released "Diversity Counts," a comprehensive study of gender, race and age in the library profession.  The study was conducted by the ALA Office for Research & Statistics, ALA Office for Diversity and Decision Demographics, a research firm based in Arlington, Va. and confirms the need for continued recruitment of people of color.
  • ALA Member Demographics Survey
By undertaking this member survey ALA takes a big step toward knowing itself and being able to describe itself to others. Access articles on the findings to date, locate the rfp for research studies, and take the survey.
  • Serving Non-English Speakers in U.S. Public Libraries
Study provides new information about library services and programs developed for non-English speakers, including effectiveness of services, barriers to library use, most frequently used services and most success library programs by language served.
  • Spectrum Survey Report
Bridging Boundaries to Create a New Workforce: A Survey of Spectrum Scholarship Recipients, 1998-2003. The Bridging Boundaries report represents the first published survey on the progress of ALA's national diversity and recruitment effort designed to address the specific issue of under-representation of critically needed ethnic librarians within the profession.
