Washington DC Maps and Information
Public Transit in Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. offers several rail and bus options for getting around the city. Detailed
maps are available at http://www.wmata.com. Bus fares are $1.25, and Metrorail fares range from
$1.35 to $3.90, depending on the length of the trip.

ALA Shuttle Bus Service - Sponsored by Thomson Gale
Free shuttle
buses, sponsored by Thomson Gale, will operate between all participating
hotels (not within walking distance) and the Washington Convention Center during the conference. The Program Guide provided onsite will include shuttle information, and ALA hotels will have signs in the lobby with schedules and pickup locations. You can also print out this PDF with shuttle routes and information. Please note that this information may change - check Cognotes and the signs in your hotel lobby to confirm shuttle information.
Service will begin on Friday, June 22 at 7:30 am.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON SHUTTLE BUSES TO DORM HOUSING AT GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY
As of June 18, 2007
Beginning Friday, June 22, thru Tuesday, June 26th, a complimentary
shuttle bus will run to and from George Mason University and the Washginton DC convention center ONCE daily due to distance and traffic conditions:
- Shuttle from George Mason to Convention Center will pick up at 6:30 am and will board in Lot E at George Mason University.
- Shuttle from Convention Center to George Mason will pick up at 5:15 pm at the main convention center bus drop off area, 7th Street entrance.
Additionally, there will be a mini shuttle bus that will run continuously all day from George Mason to the closest Metro station (Vienna Fairfax-GMU Station at the end of the Orange Line). To reach the Convention Center, you can either:
- Take the Orange Line towards New Carrolton and get off at L'Enfant Plaza Station. There you transfer to the Yellow Line going towards Fort Totten and get off at Mt. Vernon Square-UCD Metro Station and you will be at the Convention Center.
- Take the Orange line towards New Carrolton and get off at Metro Center. You can then walk three blocks north and then three blocks east and you will be at the Convention Center (you can also take a shuttle bus from the nearby Marriott Metro Center hotel).
To return to George Mason University via the Metro, take the Orange Line towards Vienna Fairfax-GMU, and get off at the Vienna Fairfax-GMU Station (last stop on the Orange Line). ALA shuttle buses will run from this station to George Mason University on a regular basis. You may find more information regarding purchasing metro passes and schedules by visiting www.wmata.com

Washington D.C. is serviced by Reagan National
Airport in Washington D.C. and Dulles
International Airport in Virginia, with details
available at http://www.metwashairports.com, as
well as BWI Airport in nearby Baltimore, with
details available at http://www.bwiairport.com/.
REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT
Taxicabs: Taxicab stands are conveniently located
near the Arrivals (baggage claim) exits of each terminal. Dispatchers at each stand will help you
select a taxicab based on your destination. Taxis to the CapitolHill area average around $10, anda cab to the Georgetown area averages around $13.
Airport Shuttle: Advance reservations for
SuperShuttle are not required. At Baggage Claim, follow signs for Ground Transportation
to the SuperShuttle boarding area, located curbside at each terminal. A uniformed Guest Service
Representative will assist you between 6:30 AM & 11:30 PM. Tickets are $12.00 for the first passenger/ $8.00 for each additional passenger, up to five. Reservations to and from the airport can be made by calling 800-BLUE VAN (258-3826).
Metrorail: The Washington, DC Metrorail system has an elevated Metrorail station connected to the concourse level of terminals B and C at Reagan National Airport. Metrorail fare cards
may be purchased at machines locates at all entrances to the Airport Metrorail station. The
station is also fully accessible via elevators. Metrorail fares range from $1.35 to $3.90,
depending on the length of the trip. From Terminal B and C: Use either of two enclosed pedestrian
bridges on the concourse level which connect directly to the station. From Terminal A: Exit the terminal to the streetside curb, and board any “Airport Shuttle” bus. At the stops for Parking
Garages B and C (bus shelter #3 and bus shelter #5) you may access an enclosed bridge which
connects to the Metrorail station.
DULLES AIRPORT
Taxicabs: Taxis are available 24-hours a day from
the dispatch center at the ”Taxi Passengers" area
on the lower level of the Main Terminal. A cab into Washington D.C. averages around $55.
Airport Shuttle: Advance reservations for SuperShuttle are not required. At Baggage
Claim, follow signs towards Ground Transportation/ Shared Ride Vans. SuperShuttle
ticket counters are located on the lower level, at curb 1D or 1E.When your ticket number is called,
proceed outside where a uniformedGuest Service Representative will assist you.The ticket counter is
open from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM, with Guest Service Representatives available until 12:00 AM.
Tickets are $25.00 for the first passenger / $8.00 for each additional passenger, up to five.
Reservations to and from the airport can be made by calling 800-BLUE VAN (258-3826).
Metrorail: To access the Metrorail from Dulles, you will take a Washington Flyer Coach to the West Falls Church Metrorail stop. Purchase a ticket (one-way - $9 or round-trip - $16) at the
Washington Flyer Coach ticket counter located at Arrivals Door #4 in the Main Terminal.
Travelers will also board the Coach from this location. The buses depart approximately
every 30 minutes but please listen for announcements for exact bus departure
times. Details available at http://www.washfly.com/metro.htm. You may purchase a Metrorail fare card inside the train station at the West Falls Chuch Metro stop where you will
board the train. Trains bound for "New Carrollton" will take you towards Downtown
Washington, DC. Metrorail information and stops available at http://www.wmata.com, or call
(202) 637-7000; TDD (202) 638-3780. Metrorail fares range from $1.35 to $3.90,
depending on the length of the trip.
BALTIMORE/ WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT (BWI)
Taxicabs: The BWI taxi stand is located just outside
of the baggage claim area of the Lower Level of the BWI Airport Terminal. Taxis to Washington
D.C. average around $63.
Airport Shuttle: Advance reservations for SuperShuttle are not required. Proceed to the
SuperShuttle ground transportation counters, located on the lower level between Southwest
Airlines luggage carousels numbers 1-5 at the Pier A / B baggage claim, & next to baggage claim
#10 at PierC.When your ticket number is called, proceed outside to board the next available van.
The ticket counter is open from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Tickets are $35.00 for the first passenger
/ $12.00 for each additional passenger, up to five. Reservations to and from the airport can be
made by calling 800-BLUE VAN (258-3826).
Metrorail: BWI ExpressMetro bus service provides a direct connection between BWI and the
Greenbelt Metro Station. The BWI Express/B30 service runs every 40 minutes, 7 days a week to the GreenbeltMetro Station, which is located on the Green Line of theWashingtonMetro System.
There are two Express Bus Stops. One is located on the lower level of the International Pier and
the other stop is located on the lower level of Concourse A/B. The B30 will pick you up outside
at the bus shelter. Follow the signs that say “Public Transit.” The Greenbelt Metro Station
connects to Metro Stations throughout Washington, D.C. A route map and schedule is
available now on Metro's website, www.wmata.com. Or call 202-637-7000 for more information. Express bus fare is $3.00, and Metrorail fares range from $1.35 to $3.90, depending on the length of the trip.
Hotel Reservation Information
As an ALA attendee or exhibitor, you are eligible for special hotel rates. You can only make reservations at the ALA rates by booking through the ALA Travel Desk.
Online Hotel reservations and paper reservation forms are now available.

Experient is ALA’s travel management company for both hotel and airline reservations.As anALA
attendee or exhibitor, you are eligible for special airline and hotel rates. To reach the ALA travel desk, please call 1-800-974-9833 or 847-282-2529 and identify yourself as an attendee or exhibitor of the ALA AnnualConference in Washington D.C. The ALA travel desk is open Monday
through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm CST.
Hotel reservation requests will be accepted until April 27, 2007, subject to availability. A list of selected hotels and their rates is included in this section. Rates are quoted for the room, not per person, and all rooms are assigned on a firstcome, first-served basis. Special rates are available only when you book directly with the ALA travel desk. All rooms are subject to applicable tax, currently at 14.9% for hotel tax. All requests must include six choices.Make sure to give accurate dates of arrival and departure for everyone occupying the requested room. Please note that the ALA travel desk does not assume the responsibility of pairing guests for double occupancy or inmultiple housing units. After April 27, 2007, the ALA travel desk will continue tomake reservations ona space available basisonly (i.e., book early to get the hotel of your choice).
Dorm Housing Information
DORM HOUSING IS CURRENTLY FULL.
Dorm housing will be available at GeorgeMason University, located at 4400 University Drive,
Fairfax, VA 22030. ALA will provide busing between the dorms and the Washington
Convention Center, just as if you were staying in a hotel.
The rooms will be in Commonwealth and Dominion Halls, located in the DUCC Area.
These are five-story buildings consisting of suitestyle, double occupancy rooms. Suite-Style
Housing: Typically two people share a bedroom with two bedrooms sharing a common bathroom
between them. Single occupancy rooms are also available; in this case, 2 bedrooms still share a
common bath area.
The rates are: $26.00 per person/per night double occupancy suite; and $31.00 per
person/per night single occupancy suite. Reservations must be made by April 27, 2007.
Only 100 spaces are available, and they are on a first-come, first-served basis.
These reservations must be paid in advance. Cancellations must be made by May 11, 2007 for a refund.
Linens may be added to your reservation for an additional $18 per packet, payable upon check-in
at the hotel. All linens, with the exception of pillows, are cleaned and wrapped professionally
after each use. If you wish to trade in your packet during your stay for a clean set, you may do so
for another $18. Each Linen Package includes these items: 2 sheets, 1 blanket, 1 pillow, 1 pillowcase, 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, 2 washcloths.
Hotel Confirmation Information
Confirmation of the room reservation will be acknowledged by the travel desk and sent within 72
hours. If you have any questions regarding your reservation, or tomake changes or cancellations,
contact theALATravelDesk at 1-800-974-9833 or 847-282-2529, not the hotel. A first night’s room and tax deposit (payable by credit card) is required to hold hotel reservations. Your first
night’s deposit is refundable if you cancel within yourhotel's cancellationpolicy.Check your confirmation for details on your hotel’s policy.
Airline Reservations and Discount Information
United Airlines is offering special meeting discounts for attendees of the ALA Annual Conference. Simply call the United Special Meeting Desk at 800-521-4041 and refer to Meeting ID Number 563HP to receive a 2-10% discount off applicable fares, including First Class. If you purchase your ticket at least 30 days prior to travel, you will receive an additional 5%discount. This special offer applies to travel on domestic segments of all United Airlines, United Express, TED and United code share flights (UA*) operated by US Airways, US Airways Express and Air Canada. There are no fees to use the 800 number. International attendees will receive a 10% discount off the lowest applicable fare (excluding First Class), or a 15% discount off the fully refundable, unrestricted coach fare when they call their local United Airlines reservation number and refer tomeeting IDnumber 563HP. An additional 5% discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 60 days in advance of your
travel dates. Discounts apply to United and Lufthansa (code share) flights.
You can also make your reservation online at www.united.com, using ALA ID 563HP. Under "Book Travel" click "More Search Option" at the bottom, and enter the ALA ID in the "Electronic certificate or promotion code" box. Please note that in order for the discount code to work, you must choose either BWI, DCA (Reagan International) or IAD (Dulles) as your destination airport.
Experient will serve as the official travel coordinator for the 2007 ALA Annual Meeting. Experient
will provide custom itineraries with the lowest applicable air fares and best journey time.

U.S. and Canada) from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CST,Monday through Friday. $22.00 service fee per airline ticket issued. Save $7.00 when you book online.

Helpful hints: Once you are prompted to "Go To Travelport", you will be sent to our Welcome

is the password you provided on the registration page. For security measures, you will be
asked to change your password.
Train and Bus Travel to Washington D.C.
Amtrak:
three Amtrak train routes terminate in or pass through Washington
D.C.at Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Ave NE. For reservations
or information, contact Amtrak at 800-872-7245 or go online at
www.amtrak.com.
Amtrak is offering ALA attendees a 10% discount off the lowest available rail fare to Washington D.C. from June 18-June 30, 2007. To book your reservation, call Amtrak and reference Fare Code X01N-909. Reservations cannot be made through the internet with this offer. Fare is valid on Metroliner and Acela service, but not on Auto Train.
Greyhound: all Greyhound buses arrive and depart from the
stations at
1005 1st St. NE and Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Ave NE. For
information, contact Greyhound at 800-229-9424 or go online at
www.greyhound.com.
Rental Cars
ALA has negotiated exclusive rates with Avis for rental cars during the meeting. For rates and reservations call 800-331-1600 or access the website at http://www.avis.com. You must mention the Avis Worldwide Discount Number (AWD), D005980, when calling or using the website to receive the special discount.
