I'm currently reading "Migrations: A Novel" by Charlotte McConaghy. It's about a women who is tracking the last migration of Arctic terns, birds that travel from pole to pole every year. I recently finished my PhD so it's been nice to have time for leisure reading again!

Community, learning, opportunity.

I've been a member of ACRL since I first became a librarian in 2000 (feels like a lifetime ago!). I've found it immensely valuable for networking with colleagues across the country, learning about trends in academic libraries, and contributing in meaningful ways to professional standards and best practices. Librarians are always eager to share and learn and it's a pleasure to participate in these professional conversations.
 

As the associate dean for public services, I oversee the reference, instruction, outreach, and access services units of the libraries. I advocate for services that contribute to the teaching, learning, and research of the university and support my colleagues in getting the resources they need to be able to do their jobs well. Being in public services allows me to connect with students every day and it's amazing to watch their growth throughout their academic careers.
 

Providing library services safely and effectively on a residential campus during the pandemic has been a difficult task! I've been so impressed with the resourcefulness and creativity of my colleagues who have really risen to the challenge in providing students and faculty with the resources and services that they need. As a leader, I always try to remember that my job is not only to serve the students, faculty, and staff of the university, but also my librarians and staff who provide those services.
