I am ALA International Spotlight-Anna Maria Tammaro

I am ALA INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT is one of several new initiatives by ALA President 2018-2019 Loida Garcia-Febo to expand ALA’s global presence. By highlighting and recognizing talented international members from different regions around the world, ALA is truly a global association with a strong mission in supporting library workers and advocates. Each month, I am ALA INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT will feature a new international member who will share how ALA has supported their work and how they see the profession today.  This month, we feature Anna Maria Tammaro, Professor, University of Parma, Italy.

Can you tell us about yourself and your work?

From 2000 until 2018 I taught in international Masters with students from all over the world. Now I am committed to transforming the LIS curriculum to adapt it to the change of libraries, on this I collaborate with the IFLA Project Building Strong Library Association and on this I started a collaboration with David Lankes. I would like to bring this theme of the internationalization of the LIS formation into ALA.

Why is it important to be a librarian today?

There is a need for agents of change for an inclusive, educated and peaceful society.

How has ALA helped you in your career?

Many ALA members have inspired and encouraged me to pursue common goals. From 2017 I decided to become a member of ALA and now I would like to have a more active role
